Client Intervention and Assistance (CIA)

What is CIA?

Client Intervention and Assistance means becoming involved at a difficult time to assure the best quality of life to those who are vulnerable and at risk. This program offers crisis intervention, client service assistance and information to individuals including caregivers who need assistance.

CIA is an organized process that consists of assessment, planning, monitoring, reassessment, and evaluation. CIA Coordinator help the client define the problem and establish the appropriate linkages, create an understanding of what is going on and help prioritize the problem to establish a starting point as well as a plan of action.

Goal of CIA:

The service is aimed at helping individuals cope with the daily demands of independent living in the community. This is based on the professional case management model which includes casework intervention, service coordination and assistance to clients and their caregivers.

Who Needs CIA?

  • People who are involved in complex care situations that require an organized, timely and timed approach to ensure resolution
  • Elderly people who do not have an advocate or who cannot advocate for themselves, or choose not to use an existing advocate
  • Adult children who do not live in the same city as their aging parents who require a single point of access to coordinate and implement a care plan
  • Adult children looking for direction in navigating the Canadian Healthcare system for their aging parents
  • People looking to plan for the future; what to expect and how to plan for it

What does a CIA Coordinator do?

  • Manages a caseload and provides clinical social services for clients and caregiver.
  • Provides individual, groups, or family counseling to individuals with psychological, medical, neurological, speech/language, and/or developmental problems.
  • Evaluates the needs of individuals and families, obtains psychosocial history; assesses needs and links individuals and families with available psychological, health and social services.
  • Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team to assess treatment needs; coordinates treatment activities and provides input into the development of treatment plans.
  • Acts as an advocate for the client; supports self-advocacy efforts, and supports client in exercising rights, choices and responsibilities.
  • Participates in staff conferences for the purpose of overall program planning.
  • Consults with individual and community organizations on the improvement of existing resources.
  • Provides education and training session for staff, clients and caregivers

SSSE is able to provide services in many different languages to meet the needs of the clients.  We are able to communicate in English, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, and Somali. We provide services in other languages, thru the use of caregivers who speak English and interpretation from staff members.

CIA Coordinator will provide in-home and in-office assessments to identify needs facilitate access to information and community resources and develop short and long-term service plans.  Monitoring and follow-up service is provided.
